Rahul Vishwanath Karad

Founder & Convenor, Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Indian Student Parliament), Vice President, MAEER's MIT Group of Institutions Chief Initiator & Dean, MIT-SOG

Rahul Vishwanath Karad is an enterprising young educationist in the forefront of the 68 institutes strong MAEER's MIT Group of Institutions, Pune with over 55,000 students under its fold. A graduate in engineering and a post graduate in management from Cardiff U.K, Rahul, 38, is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School, U.S.A. 

Rahul is advancing the inherited vision and mission of his visionary academician father Prof. Dr. Vishwanath Karad, Founder MIT Group of Institutions, with a fearless passion and deep rooted patriotic content in his heart. He holds a firm conviction in channelizing the power of youth to augment their active participation in our pluralistic democracy. His true nationalistic consciousness keeps finding expressions through numerous activities that he initiates and infuses a renewed sense of pride and patriotism amongst the young budding minds. 

Addressing his burning desire in contribution to Nation Building prompted him trudge a new path reflecting in the shape of MIT School of Government. With his energized focus and genuine involvement, the School is honing and nurturing the next generation of Indian Political Leaders and his efforts are appreciated, placed and valued in the national context. The school being the first of its kind in Asia has attained success in the process of activity and has increased manifold in stature and prestige by its concentrated efforts of strengthening the fabric of Indian Democratic Leadership. 

He firmly believes, involvement of youth in a wide variety of social, national and international issues will be a key determinant of our success and excellence. To do so, and for the composite development of youth, it is essential that they be well exposed, informed, enlightened, connected and spirited. To achieve this goal, a purposeful platform like “Indian Student Parliament” is founded by him. Potentially and objectively, this platform is also a breeding ground for the youth to assume various leadership roles in order to strengthen the very essence of democracy.

T. N. Seshan

Chairman, Former CEC, India

T. N. Seshan, in 1955 joined the Indian Administrative Service, and held various administrative posts and also become the Cabinet Secretary, the senior most position in the Indian Civil Service hierarchy, and Member, Planning Commission of India, before being appointed the Chief Election Commissioner. 

As the Chief Election Commissioner of India he made history by introducing innovative electoral reforms and making the Election Commission a powerful body. He may be rightfully termed as the most visible public figure who redefined the status and visibility of a C.E.C in India. His name became synonymous with transparency, efficiency and forward vision during his tenure as the C.E.C. He used this to hone his political ambitions by contesting for the post of President of India in 1997 (though he lost to K.R. Narayanan). He came up with the vision of an election-card for every rightful voter in India, something that is regarded as the Indian equivalent of the U.S Social Security card. 

He is often known for his crisp one-liners, be it during his service to his superiors and ministers or while handling the media. He won the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 1996. 

After retirement he founded the Deshbhakt Trust, an NGO forum for like minded citizens concerned with social reforms in India. He was awarded the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Government Service in 1996.

R. A. Mashelkar

Governing Council Member, National Research Professor, Eminent Scientist Chairman, Academic Council, MITSOG

R. A. Mashelkar passionately believes in building innovative India. 

And he believes in straddling the pyramid, from top to bottom. He chairs India's National Innovation Foundation, that deals with grassroots innovators, from farmers to school dropouts. On the other hand, he chairs Reliance Innovation Council comprising Nobel Laureates and some of world's best thought leaders. 

Mashelkar is equally respected by industry, academia and the Government. He is an independent Director on boards of India's leading companies, from Tatas to the Reliacne group. 30 Universities around the world have bestowed upon him honorary doctorates. The Government's trust in him shows through the twelve high powered Mashelkar Committees, many of them on contentious issues. 

Mashelkar's leadership of Council of Scientific & Industrial Research for over 11 years led to transformation of this world's largest chain of laboratories. This is heralded as one of the top ten achievements of Indian Science & Technology th in the 20 Century. He has received honours ranging the Padmabhushan at the hands of President of India to Star of Asia at the hands of George Bush (Sr), former US President. If God were to grant him just one wish, what would he ask? Mashelkar says he will ask for one day on earth again in 2050 to see for himself his dream coming true India is a leading advanced nation.

Vishwanath D. Karad

President Founder & Executive President, MAEER's MIT Group of Institutions

Vishwanath D. Karad - an eminent educationist having teaching experience of 35 years in College of Engineering as an Undergraduate and Postgraduate teacher, thinker a devoted teacher and a dedicated social worker, is a man of great vision, who is totally committed to the development of technical education and the cause of raising the qualities of life of the Indian masses for the betterment of tomorrow. He was awarded the Degree of Doctorate in Philosophy and Education by the International University of Washington. He Is the founder of various initiatives such as “Maharashtra Institute of Technology, WORLD PEACE CENTER of MAEER's MIT, Pune, UNESCO CHAIR for Human Rights, Democracy and Peace, Shree Kshetra Alandi Parisar Vikas Samiti, Saint Shree Dnyaneshwara and Saint Shree Tukaram Endowment Lecture Series Trust. Apart from recognition for his works in education, he has been honored by the various awards such as Nationalaward for the year 1992 for the most outstanding work in Engineering and Technical Education for his commendable rural development work in the field of Environmental and Pollution Control at Shree Kshetra Alandi-Dehu, “Madhav - Mandakini Award” for his commendable work in the field of Rural Development - Environmental and Pollution Control at Shree Kshetra Alandi - Dehu in Pune district for changing the outlook of these holy places. He has been member of various organizations of national international repute.

Tushar Arun Gandhi

Executive Chairman, Mahatma Gandhi Foundation

Tushar Arun Gandhi is the great-grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, and the son of journalist Arun Manilal Gandhi. 

Born on a train between Mumbai and Kolkata, he was raised in the Mumbai suburb of Santa Cruz. He holds a degree in painting from Mithibai College. 

In March 2005, he led the 75th anniversary re-enactment of the Dandi March. 

In 2006, he was appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador of the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition, IIMSAM that strives and advocates to make Spirulina a key driver to eradicate malnutrition, achieve food security and to bridge the health divide with special priority for the developing and the least developed countries. 

He has traveled all across the glob to spread Gandhian ideology. He also runs the Mahatma Gandhi Foundation.

Abhay Firodia

Governing Council Member, Eminent Industrialist Chairman, Force Motors

Abhay Firodia is the Chairman of Force Motors Ltd and has been leading the group companies since 1987. Under his guidance Force Motors has created a strong engineering infrastructure, and Research and Development facility. His leadership continues to guide the company in manufacture of utilitarian, cost effective, and quality products especially suited for Indian economy and rural conditions. Force Motors' half a century of active collaborations with German companies has been enhanced by Dr. Abhay Firodia with new alliances and partnerships in the last decade. 

Dr. Firodia has been the President of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce (IGCC), the President of the Society of Indian Automobiles Manufacturers (SIAM), President of the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and also the President of the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA). Dr. Abhay Firodia is currently the President of the Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture. 

Mr Firodia, a firm believer of Corporate Social responsibility, said the Jan Lokpal Bill movement of anticorruption crusader, Anna Hazare, has proved the irrelevance of vote bank politics. He also added Anna's call against corruption had resonated with the masses, which stood up to support him and his cause. In the real sense, he had united the nation and reminded the elected representative that they are answerable to the people at large.

Anu Aga

Governing Council Member, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha Chairperson, Teach For India, Former Chairperson Thermax Ltd.

Anu Aga is an Indian businesswoman and social worker, who led Thermax Ltd., the energy and environment engineering business, as its Chairperson. 

Currently, she is the Chairperson of Teach For India. 

She was nominated to Rajya Sabha, the Upper House of Indian Parliament, by President Pratibha Patil. 

She had figured among the eight richest Indian women and was part of 40 Richest Indians by net worth according to Forbes magazine. She has also been awarded with the Mumbai Women of the Decade Achievers Award by ALL Ladies League, the all ladies wing of Assocham. 

After retiring from Thermax, she remained on company's board of directors and involved in social work and in 2010, was awarded the Padma Shri for Social Work by the Government of India. She graduated with a B.A. in Economics from St Xavier's College, Mumbai, and with a post graduation in medical and psychiatric social work from the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai and has studied in the United States also, for a short period.

Lobsang Sangay

Governing Council Member, Prime Minister of Tibetan Government-in-Exile, Dharmashala, India

Lobsang Sangay, is the Prime Minister of Tibetan Government-in-Exile, Dharmashala, India and has served as the democratically elected head of the Tibetan people and the political successor to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. 

He has completed his BA (Honors) in English literature and is a dual Bachelor in Law and has obtained his Masters Degree at Harvard Law School. 

He has organized seven major conferences for Chinese, Tibetan, Indian and Western scholars on contemporary Tibet and arranged two unprecedented meetings between His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Chinese scholars; the first, in 2003, included participation from 35 Mainland Chinese scholars and the second, May 2009 at Harvard University, brought His Holiness the Dalai Lama together with more than one hundred scholars, in an effort to promote Track II Diplomacy. 

Sangay was selected as one of the 24 Young Leaders of Asia by the Asia Society, the New York-based global organization. He has participated in Young Asian Leaders Summit in South Korea, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and India. He has been recognized with numerous honors and awards including the Leadership Award by the Regional New England Amnesty International, the Peace and Justice Award by the Peace Commission of City of Cambridge, and membership on the Advisory Board of the Asian American Civic Association. He has been a regular participant of the World Justice Forum which brings together in Vienna top legal experts, judges and officials from around the world. He was also an Editorial consultant for Radio Free Asia and in addition, managed a popular weekly radio program on Democracy and Rule of Law. Throughout his career, Dr. Sangay has interacted with and trained Tibetan youth leaders on the strategies of effective engagement with Chinese scholars and students.

Mark Tully

Governing Council Member, Former Bureau Chief Government-in-Exile, BBC, India

Mark Tully is the most regionally-savvy western reporter in the Indian subcontinent, 30 years in the field with incredible performance. He is the former Bureau Chief of BBC, New Delhi. During his 22-year tenure as the BBC's India Correspondent, he became familiar to viewers and listeners throughout the world for his incisive and thoughtprovoking reports. 

In his writing he has woven excellent stories which explore India intensely. As an author he combines analysis of major issues with a feel for the fine texture and human realities of Indian life. His clarity towards his understanding, warmth of feeling and critical balance provides as lovely a view as one can hope for the panorama of India. 

Whether dodging the bullets during the skirmishes which bubbled up, from time to time, on the India-Pakistan border or detailing the horrific aftermath of the Bhopal chemical disaster, he gave a unique insight into the life of the subcontinent. Educated at Marlborough public school and Cambridge University Tully found India a haven for his spiritual need. His pieces, whether for radio or television, invariably dodged the superficial, painting pictures of the reality behind the headlines and the effect of war, poverty and disease on ordinary people.

Prabodh Thakker

Former President, Indian Merchant's Chamber

Prabodh Thakker is the Former President, Indian Merchants’ Chambers and has been an impassioned driver of Indian and International Insurance & Reinsurance Industry for more than three decades. 

His untiring efforts and commitment have taken Global Insurance, a joint venture with one of the major insurance & reinsurance global broking firms, head quartered in London of which he is Director, to becoming one of the largest insurance brokerage and consultancy practice in India. 

His achievements have seen him unanimously recognized as a stalwart and torchbearer of the insurance industry. In his previous role, he was Managing Director of Global Insurance Services Pvt. Ltd. and is now on the Board of various Group Companies of Global Insurance. 

Mr. Thakker has vast experience in various verticals of insurance, including Aviation, Energy, Construction, Reinsurance, Mega Risks, Employee Benefits and Risk Management practices. 

He also has the membership of the Managing Committee of Indo American Chamber of Commerce (IACC), Mumbai and Executive Committee of Indo American Society, Mumbai and has been associated with various forums. 

Along with commerce background, he also holds an Associate Degree (A.I.I.I.) from Insurance Institute of India and is faculty in various institutions and colleges related to insurance and risks management. 

A visionary by nature and a “make-it-happen” person by compulsion, he is committed to bringing about a meaningful change in social environs and also closely involved in education and employment programmes for the less-privileged youth from the rural areas. His many initiatives in the social space also include welfare of animals. 

He is already on the path to creating a state-of-the-art educational & skill development centre which is proposed at the futuristic city of India ‘G.I.F.T.’ at Gujarat. The proposed name of this project is 'Global Knowledge Centre'.

S. Parasuraman

Director, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai

S. Parasuraman having Master's Degree in Anthropology and a Ph.D. in Demography presently serving as Director Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai India. He has over 25 years of experience as a teacher, trainer, activist, administrator and development worker. He has a strong foundation in critical thinking, and conceptual and analytical skills. 

He has held keys positions in international organisations: as Asia Regional Policy Coordinator, ActionAid Asia; Senior Advisor to the Commission, and Team Leader of the Secretariat;World Commission on Dams; and as Programme Director, Oxfam GB, India Programme. 

Dr. Parasuraman has been associated with the Narmada Movement from 1987 and was a member of the Indian Prime Minister's Committee to review the Tehri Hydroelectric Project. He has also been Key member of the 'Practioners Forum on Human Rights in Development' (facilitated by the UNHCHR), involving UN agencies, bilateral and multilateral agencies, and NGOs with Asia regional offices based in Bangkok; and Key member of an NGO network engaged in advocacy with the Asian Development Bank. Prof. Parasuraman has over 50 publications in the form of articles in international and national journals, books and research reports.

Vijay Bhatkar

Eminent Computer Scientist Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT, Delhi

Vijay Bhatkar is one of the most acclaimed scientist and IT leader of India. He is best known as the architect of India's first supercomputer and as the founder Executive Director of C-DAC, India's national initiative in supercomputing. He is credited with the creation of several national institutions, notably amongst them being C-DAC, ER&DC, IIITM-K, I2IT, ETH Research Lab, MKCL and India International Multiversity 
His untiring efforts and commitment have taken Global Insurance, a joint venture with one of the major insurance & reinsurance global broking firms, head quartered in London of which he is Director, to becoming one of the largest insurance brokerage and consultancy practice in India. 

He has been a Member of Scientific Advisory Committee to Cabinet of Govt of India, Governing Council Member of CSIR, India and eGovernace Committee Chairman of Governments of Maharashtra and Goa. 

A Fellow of IEEE, ACM, CSI,INAE and leading scientific, engineering and professional societies of India, he has been honored with Padmashri and Maharashtra Bhushan awards. Other recognitions include Saint Dnyaneshwar World Peace Prize, Lokmanya Tilak Award , HK Firodia and Dataquest Lifetime Achievement Awards, and many others. He was a nominee for Petersburg Prize and is a Distinguished Alumni of IIT,Delhi. 

Dr Bhatkar has authored and edited 12 books and 80 research & technical papers. His current research interests include Exascale Supercomputing, AI, Brain-MindConsciousness, and Synthesis of Science & Spirituality
